Triangle Water Quality

What's actually in your tap water

Every Triangle utility publishes annual water quality data. Here's what the numbers say — and why it matters for your family's health.

What Customers Say

Trusted by Triangle homeowners

★★★★★

"Pregnant with our second and OWASA's PFAS reports freaked me out — nine documented compounds. Got the complete system installed before the baby was born. The free water report had real numbers, not marketing fluff. Worth every penny."

Sarah J. — Chapel Hill, NC
★★★★★

"Two kids under five and I'd been reading about 1,4-dioxane in Jordan Lake — that's what pushed us. Got the whole-home plus the RO. The numbers in the free water report matched what they told us. Install took half a day. Kids drink straight from the tap now."

Lauren K. — Cary, NC
★★★★★

"I got three quotes. Culligan wanted $6,200 and wouldn't give me a price until they'd been in my house for an hour. Brighter Water gave me a written quote online and installed the next week. Complete night-and-day experience."

Marcus T. — Raleigh, NC

FAQ

Common questions

Does Raleigh area water actually need a filtration system?+
Yes — but not for hardness. Triangle municipal water is already very soft (1.4–1.7 GPG), so water softeners are largely overkill. The real issues are chloramine (the disinfectant Wake County uses, which standard carbon filters barely address) and PFAS "forever chemicals" detected above EPA limits in several Triangle utilities. Our catalytic carbon + RO bundle is built specifically for these problems.
What is PFAS and should I be worried?+
PFAS are synthetic "forever chemicals" linked to cancer, thyroid disease, and immune suppression. They don't break down in the environment or your body. The EPA set a 4 ppt drinking water limit in 2024 — several Triangle utilities test above it. The only reliably effective removal method for drinking water is an NSF P473-certified reverse osmosis system, which is included in our complete system.
Why catalytic carbon instead of a standard filter?+
Chloramine — the disinfectant Wake County uses — requires a catalytic reaction to break down. Standard GAC (granular activated carbon) only physically adsorbs chlorine; it reduces chloramine by 20–40% at best. Catalytic carbon (like Centaur or Jacobi media) has a modified surface that chemically converts chloramine to harmless compounds. This is why we specifically use catalytic carbon, not generic carbon media.
How long does installation take?+
Most installs are done in a single visit — typically 2–4 hours. The whole-home catalytic carbon system connects to your main water line near the point of entry. The under-sink RO installs under your kitchen sink with a dedicated faucet. We test everything before we leave and walk you through the system.
I'm on a well in Johnston County — can you help?+
Absolutely. Well water is a specialty for us. We start with a comprehensive water test (included with any quote) to identify exactly what your well contains. Johnston County wells commonly have iron, manganese, high hardness, and sometimes bacteria. We build the right treatment train for your specific water — nothing more, nothing less.
What does the lifetime workmanship warranty cover?+
Our lifetime workmanship warranty covers any defect in our installation work for as long as you own your home. If a fitting we installed leaks or a valve we plumbed fails due to our workmanship — we fix it free. Equipment manufacturer warranties are separate and vary by component (typically 5–10 years on tanks and valves).
